We have just launched our Employability Scheme Placements throughout our Rescue & Rehoming Centre’s, where we would like to offer work placements for those looking to get into or back into work.
We already offer a few other schemes for young people – our youth volunteering programme offers experience to those aged 14 -16 (one day a week for 8 weeks) and we have a further education scheme offering placements to those studying animal care/vet sciences at university or college (one full week, Monday to Friday). We’re now hoping to expand into offering employability placements to people looking for help getting back into work after a period of unemployment. Ideally this would be for older people, but we understand that a lot of young people need support getting into work as well so we’re open to anything. We have already trialled the programme in our Dumbarton centre, where two people came to us for a few hours a week for about 6 weeks to gain confidence in the working environment and it was very successful!

With the exception of Karys and I, who are both employed on part-time living-wage, RCT works by virtue of our incredible team of talented, committed, and hugely special volunteers. Through them we can offer specialist workshops, stage support, costume resources, teaching at a massively high level across a range of disciplines and a whole host of other things.
Sometimes though, it's the other stuff we need help with - building the sets, driving resources here and there, admin, an extra adult around (although all our adults need to be both known to us and PVGd) or a whole host of other things.
We’re often asked how people can get involved or how they can help. Well, I’ll be honest, I’m really not very good at asking for help. In an attempt to make it easier for us to shout when we need help, we've put together a Google form for you to register your interest in helping in any capacity at RCT. No commitment - we're not asking you to sign your life away :) It will hopefully just make it a little easier to shout if and when we need you! – Pamela Mackie.
